What Is Golden Milk?
Golden milk, also known as turmeric milk, is a spiced drink with a long history in Indian cooking, where it is traditionally made by warming milk with turmeric and other spices. It has since become a fixture on cafe menus, and it is easy to make at home in a few minutes.
This warm, creamy and cozy Protein Latte adds a scoop of protein powder to the classic base. The protein and your preferred milk are what make it so creamy, and it turns a spiced drink into something substantial enough to follow a workout.
Ingredients
1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (or milk of choice)
1/4 cup water
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
pinch of black pepper
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (or flavor of choice)
1/2 tsp maple syrup (or sweetener of choice)
Instructions
Heat milk and water in a pot until warmed through.
Add turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and black pepper. Whisk together well.
Add protein powder and maple syrup. Whisk or blend until smooth and frothy.
Pour into a mug and enjoy!
Why You’ll Love This Golden Milk Protein Latte
Protein packed: the added scoop makes this a satisfying post-workout drink rather than just a warm spiced milk.
Customize as needed: play with the level of spice by reducing or increasing turmeric, ginger and black pepper to your taste. You can also make it with your favorite milk like coconut milk, oat milk, cashew milk or regular dairy milk.
Brewed coffee or tea: make a coffee version by replacing 1/4 cup water with 1/4 cup brewed coffee or tea.
Coffee free: a cup of golden milk latte without the coffee is naturally caffeine-free, which makes it work just as well in the afternoon or evening.
Dissolve protein first: to avoid any lumps, dissolve the protein powder fully in the liquid. We recommend whisking or blending the latte if possible.
