Why You’ll Love this Valentine’s Shake

  • Speedy to make: This chocolate and strawberry shake takes just minutes to make.

  • Nourishing yet festive: We love this as a fun way to have a wholesome breakfast while also feeling cutesy on Valentine’s Day.

  • Protein boost: This is a great (and easy) way to include protein in your morning routine.

  • No added sugar: Naturally sweetened with fruit and honey or maple syrup—no artificial sugars.

Ingredients

Gather up your ingredients for this easy chocolate strawberry shake.

  • Unsweetened almond milk (or milk of choice): A light, dairy-free base that keeps the shake creamy without added sugars. Feel free to swap for oat, cashew, or dairy milk.

  • Frozen strawberries: Using strawberries makes the shake extra slushy, which we love.

  • Chocolate protein powder: Use the best quality you can get your hands on – the higher the % of protein, the better.

  • Unsweetened cocoa powder: For an extra chocolatey boost.

  • Frozen banana: helps to that smooth, creamy texture we all crave.

  • Honey or maple syrup (optional): Both are great, so use what you have.

  • Vanilla extract: This is optional, but it gives it that “desserty” taste.

Chia seeds: A source of fiber, omega-3s, and a slight thickening effect when blended.

Substitutions and Variations

There are tons of ingredient swaps you can make. Here are a few :

  • Milk swaps: Substitute almond milk for oat, coconut, cashew, or dairy milk.

  • Banana: Substitute with Greek yogurt or avocado for creaminess without banana.

  • Sweetener: Use dates, monk fruit sweetener, or stevia instead of honey or maple syrup.

  • Chia seeds: Swap with flaxseeds or hemp seeds.

Variations

  • Berry blend: Mix in raspberries or blueberries.

  • Mocha shake: Add a shot of espresso or cold brew.

  • Peanut butter chocolate: Blend in a spoonful of peanut or almond butter.

  • Green booster: Toss in a handful of spinach for added nutrients without changing the taste.

Tips and Tricks

Here are a few hints and tips to get the very best out of this chocolate and strawberry shake:

  • Chill the milk: This just makes it extra refreshing.

  • Chill your glass: Pop your glass in the freezer for a few minutes before pouring.

  • ·Blend liquids first: This just helps you get a smooth result more easily.

5 Common Mistakes when Making this Chocolate and Strawberry Shake

Avoid these issues if possible:

  • Using fresh fruit instead of frozen: Fresh strawberries and bananas won’t give the shake its thick, creamy texture. If using fresh, add more ice, but be aware it may water down the flavor.

  • Adding too much liquid: Overdoing the milk can make the shake too thin. Start with less and add more as you go.

  • Skipping the blending order: Blending everything at once can lead to clumps. Always add liquids first, followed by soft ingredients, and finish with ice and frozen fruit for the smoothest blend.

  • Forgetting to taste and adjust: Some protein powders are naturally sweet, while others are bitter—taste before adding extra sweetener to avoid a super sugary shake.

  • Not blending long enough: Stopping too soon can leave chunks of fruit or protein powder. Blend for at least 30–60 seconds until completely smooth.
